FGUA Wins International Outreach Award

The Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) received the Public Communications and Outreach Program Award from the Water Environment Federation (WEF) at the WEF Awards event at the Water Environment Federation Technical and Exhibition Conference (WEFTEC) in Chicago on Tuesday, October 3.  The award recognizes the accomplishments of utilities promoting public awareness and water environmental issues using outreach, education, and communication programs.  This year, FGUA programs including the FGUA/Pasco County Utilities Water Awareness Poster Contest for elementary students in Pasco County, the Lehigh Acres Rain Barrel Painting Contest for senior citizens in Lee County, and a Fix-a-Leak Week Activity Guide for children on the FGUA website.  Matt Rihs, FGUA Community Services Manager, accepted the award on behalf of the FGUA.  Mr. Rihs stated “Community engagement and education is important for the long-term sustainability of our water supply, and we appreciate the support of our partners and program sponsors that continue making our programs a success for the communities we serve.”
