This past Saturday (April 12, 2025), Boy Scout Troop 11 rolled up their sleeves and got to work with FGUA, proving once again that teamwork can make a meaningful difference in Lehigh Acres.

With brushes in hand, these scouts tackled the behind-the-scenes work that makes the Lehigh Acres Rain Barrel Painting Contest possible. Before a single drop of paint could be added, each of the 20 barrels had to be thoroughly cleaned, sanded, and primed—a task that’s both labor-intensive and essential for a lasting finish.

Their efforts set the stage for local seniors to participate in the upcoming painting contest, where Lehigh Acres seniors use their artistic talents to create beautiful rain barrels. Once painted, the barrels will be auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds going to helping local seniors pay their water utility bills.

Troop 11’s volunteer hours also count toward their Citizenship in the Community Merit Badges, making this effort not just generous—but personally meaningful too.

FGUA is incredibly grateful for the hard work and heart these young leaders brought to the project. This is the third year in a row this troop has been a part of this important project. Thank you for helping us support water conservation and our senior community in such a hands-on way!
